T-BIRD
Project
In
addition to our commitment to good environment, the firm also
participates in other community projects as a good corporate
citizen. For example, the firm sponsors a local school in
Khon Kaen province through the Thai Business Initiative in
Rural Development (TBIRD). This is an innovative program that
brings companies and poor villagers together. By fostering
or adopting a village, a company can help less privileged
villagers earn reasonable income through small-scale sustainable
agricultural projects, cottage industries, and small enterprises.
T-BIRD addresses many of the most fundamental problems faced
by rural people seeking to improve their quality of life.
Tilleke & Gibbins has sponsored a local primary school
lunch project at Ban Huaymuang School in Khon Kaen since 1991.
The main purpose of this project is to provide all its students
with free lunch, to encourage them to spend part of their
time in a useful way, and to promote the setting up of educational
funds and other activities beneficial to the school students.
In this project, Tilleke & Gibbins funded the purchase
of five cows, built a public pond for raising fish, growing
vegetables, and raising chickens in the school. The proceeds
from selling the products were used towards the children's
lunch in school. Moreover, Tilleke & Gibbins regularly
contributes money to add to the school lunch fund and to buy
school supplies and sports wear and uniforms for the students.
The activities have turned out to be a success and will be
continued in the future.
Individual
staff have their own personal support programs for schools
and animals, wild and domestic.
