Thai
Green Label or Eco-Label Scheme
Thailand is a party to the Green Label Scheme, which was started
in Germany in 1977 and presently comprises more than 20 countries.
The scheme was established in Thailand in October 1993 as
a collaborative undertaking of The Thailand Industrial Standards
Institute (TISI), the Ministry of Industry, and the Thailand
Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD) with
the cooperation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and
Environment and the private sector.
With
the Thai people's growing awareness of the critical environmental
situation and the need for conservation, manufacturers and
service providers have also been awakened and forced to assess
their operations and products in terms of their impact on
the environment in order to meet the changing needs of the
public and thus remain competitive. Tilleke & Gibbins,
as a TBCSD member, participates in the activities of the Thai
Green Label Scheme Committee through its representative. The
Committee's responsibilities include selecting categories
of products, determining and approving their specifications,
stipulations, and consulting with each other with regard to
the amendment and expiration of such specifications.
