Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs

A. Disaster Relief

  1. Tsunami, December 26, 2004 - On December 31, 2004, David Lyman delivered a check of Baht 500,000 to M.R. Preeyangsri, Head of the Thai Red Cross Fund Raising operations for assistance to the tsunami victims. In addition, T&G staff donated blood, clothes, food, water, and translators.
  2. Tsunami - Through a reconstruction project, T&G helped villagers in Ban Talae Nork, Ranong Province, whose village was almost wiped out by the tsunami, regain their principal means of livelihood by paying for the construction and equipment of 20 fishing boats. In addition, the firm donated cash to provide a ceiling for the mosque and a set of amplifier and loudspeakers.
  3. T&G staff donated cash for the purchase of drinking water, blankets, clothes and other items for victims of flash floods in the north in 2007.

B. Drinking Water

  1. T&G donated a water tank to several schools through the American Chamber of Commerce.
  2. T&G donated a water tank to Baan Huay Muang School, Khon Kaen Province, under the TBIRD project.
  3. T&G donated a water tank to Ban Saseeliam School, Buriram Province, under the TBIRD project.

C. Education and the Arts

  1. From 1991 to 2007, the firm sponsored a local school in Khon Kaen province through the Thai Business Initiative in Rural Development (TBIRD). In addition to a monthly subsidy for the School Lunch Program (for use towards raising vegetables, fish, ducks, etc.), the firm also donated two school restrooms. T&G staff made their own donations of cash, personal effects, milk, sports equipment, school supplies, clothes and other essential items during annual visits to the school.
  2. In 2008, the firm is sponsoring a local school in Buri Ram province through TBIRD. The firm has donated two water tanks and restrooms, which was needed urgently after their school was burned down two years ago. We are considering their geological area whether it is suited for any further help from us such as building a pond for raising fish and ducks, and growing vegetables.
  3. The firm regularly donates refurbished computers and printers to promote and enhance the technological capabilities of rural schools, government agencies, NGOs, and other groups. To date, a total of 317 PCs and 54 printers have been donated.
  4. Internships and AFS. Through partnerships with the Lawyers Council of Thailand and universities abroad, T&G acts as a training facility for law students from Thai public and private universities and foreign universities. T&G also sponsored students in the AFS Exchange Program in the past.
  5. T&G lawyers conduct a "Little Lawyers Class" at Sathit Chula, Chulalongkorn University.
  6. T&G lawyers frequently participate as lecturers in programs, seminars, workshops, and training for lawyers and judges, such as the American Bar Association's Rule of Law Initiative through the auspices of the Lawyers Council of Thailand, the US Department of Justice, and the US Embassy, and Thai law enforcement agencies such as the Thai police and customs, to name but a few.
  7. T&G's Museum of Counterfeit Goods provides an interesting learning experience and demonstrates the extent and consequences of the counterfeiting of legitimate goods. With over 1,500 pieces in the collection, the Museum is frequented by intellectual property officials, television and newspaper reporters, students, and the general public.
  8. T&G's Textile Collection. With over 1,600 pieces displayed on rotation, the mission of the T&G Textile Collection is to collect, display, and educate, as well as to preserve the pieces so they remain close to the geographical area in which they were created. Tilleke & Gibbins hopes that these textiles not only offer beauty to the working environment, but also serve to enrich the lives of the staff as well as clients and visitors to the premises. T&G also provides advice on museum work including field research and collection, exhibition design and labeling. T&G helped found the Thai Textile Society and provided them with initial office space. T&G has also loaned some of its rare textiles for public exhibitions, e.g., Jim Thompson exhibition hall, the National Museum, the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre in Luang Phra Bang, Laos PDR, and several museums in the United States.
  9. The firm is a co-sponsor of Victoria Vorreiter's "Songs of Memory - Traditional Music of the Golden Triangle", 2009. This will be a music and photographic project to preserve some of the musical traditions of the peoples of Northern Thailand and adjoining peoples of Myanmar and Laos.
  10. Mr. David Lyman has been an Advisory Board Member of the Mekong Region Law Center since 1995.

D. Environmental Clean-up/Planting Trees

  1. Reforestation Project. Since 1993, T&G has been working with the Rajapruek Institute Foundation in the Tilleke & Gibbins Second Hundred Years Reforestation Project.
  2. Recycle Paper for Trees Project. The firm has worked for many years with the Media Center for Development, an NGO, in the Center's Recycle Paper for Trees Project.
  3. Thai Green Label or Eco-Label Scheme. The firm, as a TBCSD member, participated in the activities of the Thai Green Label Scheme Committee.
  4. Mr. David Lyman is a leading environmentalist and has acted in different capacities on environmental bodies such as Creator of AmCham's Environmental Council, 1992; Chairman, King Bhumibol Rama IX Park U.S. Geodesic Dome Pavilion Committee, 1987; Founder Member, Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development, 1993-2000; Founder, AmCham-U.S. Embassy Environmental Business Exchange, 1993-1996; and Thailand Board of Investment Environmental Study Advisory Committee, 1993.
  5. The firm was a member of the Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD) and the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI).

E. Other Community Services

  1. T&G supports government/private sector publications by advertising or publishing messages of congratulations or compliments.
  2. T&G is a regular sponsor of various charity events organized by both the public and private sectors.
  3. T&G participates in charity events, e.g., bowling and golf tournaments organized by public/private sectors to raise funds for various causes.
  4. T&G also provides direct financial contributions to various organizations and associations too numerous to mention here.
  5. T&G is a member of the Thai Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TSPCA) and provides meeting facilities for the Society, as well as the Thai Animals Guardians Association.
  6. The Elephant Fund established by David Lyman provides for the caring and feeding of elephants in the Ayuthaya Elephant Camp.
  7. T&G actively promotes the non-smoking campaign of the Action on Smoking and Health Foundation. Smoking is not allowed within the T&G building.
  8. T&G was one of the office buildings identified by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to have met all the criteria of the BMA's "Attractive House Front Project" in August 2000.
  9. T&G is a supporter of the Friends of Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, which provides social entrepreneurs around the world with access to first-class legal advice. Social entrepreneurs are those that work to improve the lives of the world's poor and disenfranchised.
  10. T&G provides pro bono work to the World Conservation Union, American Women's Club, Neilson Hays Library, Human Development Foundation, etc.
  11. T&G organized a wall painting activity with an environmental theme for children from various schools.
  12. T&G was a co-founder of the Community Services of Bangkok.
  13. T&G supports the various projects of Father Joseph Maier including the "Abused Child & HIV Child".
